The Ospreys Have Returned to Mason Neck!

14 Mar 2014 7:55 PM | Hillary Clawson (Administrator)
Ospreys have returned to Mason Neck for the breeding season.

Interesting osprey facts:
  • An osprey may log more than 160,000 migration miles during its 15-to-20-year lifetime.
  • Ospreys have a reversible outer toe that allows them to grasp with two toes in front and two behind. Barbed pads on the soles of the birds' feet help them grip slippery fish.
  • An osprey hunts for an average of 12 minutes before making a catch.
Come to the park this weekend - you just might spot them.
