Potomac Watershed Cleanup at Mason Neck State Park

  • 14 Apr 2018
  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • In front of Visitor Center

Mason Neck State Park is having its 30th annual Potomac Watershed Cleanup,  sponsored by the Alice Ferguson Foundation. The shoreline of Mason Neck State Park along Belmont Bay is directly linked to the Chesapeake Bay via the Potomac River. Over the years the amount of trash the Park picks up has dropped tremendously, but every high tide brings in something else that ended up in the water. Most commonly discarded items: plastic bottles (450 to 1000 years to decompose) and plastic bags (20 to 1000 years to decompose).  Can you join us for a couple of hours to help clean up the environment?

Your volunteer efforts to assist our park rangers in shoreline and trail cleanup are a vitally important endeavor towards creating a cleaner, safer, and more protected environment at the Park.

Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. The Park will provide gloves and bags for this cleanup project. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Please direct any questions to the Park staff at 703-339-2385.
